Project Overview.

Birchstone is a new, challenger financial services firm, founded on the belief that there must be a better way to deliver risk management solutions.

Lava were brought on to develop a unique brand proposition, visual identity and website in this highly competitive sector.

Proposition Development.

Following our proven brand strategy model, we recognised that Birchstone’s offering is ultimately about more than just personal service – it’s about being an innovative, trusted extension of their client’s team.

Risk management is not only about risk mitigation, but about opportunity. By understanding more about a clients needs and financial position, the right balance of risk and performance can be found.

We recognised that it was time to bring to market a new category. One built on credible experience and proven methods, but with data-informed decision making and a unique partnership approach baked in. 

At Birchstone this is now called ‘Connected Treasury’. A symbiotic relationship between client and Birchstone, connected by deep data, a unified process and shared ambition to make risk management a strategic advantage.

Developing a Brand Identity.

The logo and visual language were designed to represent the symbiotic relationship between Birchstone and their clients – two halves of the same whole. ‘Connection’ in this case is not about complex nodes, as so often seen in financial services, but a simple, even partnership.

Designing the Building Blocks.

Photographic assets and colours would enable us to capture the character of the organisation – Warm and unpretentious while still bringing vibrancy and ambition.

Cross-channel Rollout.

Birchstone needed a brand identity that would work on and offline. To support this we built a suite of assets to support a cross-channel marketing rollout.

Building a World Class Digital Experience.

Birchstone are a fundamentally different offering in this hugely competitive space. It therefore felt natural to explore an unexpected, yet still effortless web experience.

Website Strategy.

The team wanted to tell a unique story on each page, to support this we introduced the horizontal scroll. This encouraged exploration while allowing us the opportunity to integrate a host of micro-interactions, animation and seamless navigation.

Bringing to site life with animation.

As always it’s the little touches that count when it comes to web design. Across the site as a whole, we balanced performance with a range of animations that really help elevate the site.
